About Me

Place: Fushimi Inari Shrine

Greetings! My name is Lisa. I am a biochemistry major of the the graduating class of 2016. I have been a long time resident in Houston, TX since the day I was born.  I've written a couple of reviews on Goodreads for books that I really like, but that was it. I only feel compelled to write a review if the book I read was truly memorable to me. I often find book reviews too consuming to write. I'm no professional blogger, reviewer, or critic. I review for my own sick pleasure.

I was inspired to create a book review blog by a very close friend of mine who has a blog of her own and regularly reviews. I recently decided to breathe some life back into this book review blog of mine because of the Houston Public Library’s Adult Summer Reading Program that I have been enrolled in. One of the requirements to log a book in the program is to write a review. This is where I am finally forced to make use of my writing skills. To my surprise, I didn’t find it unpleasant at all. Like I said, this was for my own sick pleasure.

My favorite book genre includes: fantasy, adventure, science fiction, historical fiction, and romance—especially historical romance. I really love to read books with clever, strong female characters. I think it's empowering to read about a female protagonist who, despite all trials and tribulations, is still able to overcome great adversaries based on her perseverance and inner strength alone. Cheng Ge from Song of the Long March possesses these qualities. Another aspect that I like in books is the presence of the comrade/friendship theme. The stalwart relationship between the trio of best friends Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter series, depicts this theme very well. Furthermore, for me, great characterization and writing style are the two main factors that determine whether a book is a keeper or not.

I am also a fan of anime and manga. I live and breathe Tokyo Ghoul. When I'm not posting on this ghost town of a blog, I write fanfiction. When I'm neither blogging nor writing, I am stuck reading about protein-protein interactions of amino acids and regurgitating the three laws of thermodynamics....
